Awareness Events


Sahara Group Soccer MatchA one day soccer match was organised by SAHARA Group Nepal on 13 March 2004. The main objective of the soccer match was the fund generation for supporting the conflict affected children of Nepal. The programme was organised in Dasarath Stadium and the match was between the chief secretaries of the government and the Diplomatic missions. The Captain of the Diplomatic mission was His Excellency Michael E Malinowski and the Captain from the side of the Chief Secretaries was Mr Binod Prasad Koirala.  The great personalities and delegations were invited during the event and the opening was done by singing and dancing of the conflict affected children those who lived in SAHARA Transit home at Nepalgunj. The major objective of the programme was highlighted in between the sessions and all the participants were highly motivated to support those children.



Similarly, a walkathon programme was organised by SAHARA Group, Child NGO Federation Nepal and Save the children jointly on 13th Sept, 2014 on the occasion of National children’s day celebration. This event was organized to drag the attention of Nepalese citizen on the most burning issue at today’s date “Child sexual abuse”. The Overall objectives of the programme was Develop a national campaign with the motive to aware whole Nepalese citizens about the alarming issue “child sexual abuse” prevailing in Nepal and ultimately prevent, control and totally eradicate this issue from Nepal.

The major activities of the programme were:

  • Registration of participants at Shital Niwas, Maharajgunj
  • T-shirt distribution
  • Speech by team member (highlighting the issue on child sexual abuse and our objective to organize event “walkathon”)
  • Speech by Respected President Dr Ram Baran Yadav
  • T-shirt handover to President
  • Walk from Shital Niwash, Maharagunj to Social Welfare Council (Lainchaur)
  • Oath by each participant on being aware on issue “child sexual abuse” followed by the snacks and refreshments.

The walkathon was closed with the oath by each of the participants and the walkathon was the part of National Campaign Against “child sexual abuse” and SAHARA Group is organizing this every year.

Number of participants:  there were 600+ participants in the events.

Sahara group has developed IEC material to create awareness against child sexual abuse. And a leaflet concerning the definition of abuse and protective measure is being distributed in all the school of 75 districts.
