  • Emergency Transit Center for Conflict Affected Children

Period: 2002 - 2006 AD
Overview: From 1996 to 2008, Nepal has faced an armed conflict which has heavily affected thousands of children. They experienced death, mental shock; they were forced to participate in violent activities or/and displaced from their families and communities. It is in this context that SAHARA Group decided to provide those children with some help. It established them a temporary shelter in Nepalgunj, Banke District. The shelter began to accommodate children in November 2002.
Objectives: To provide rehabilitation support to the conflict affected children.

Achievements:
  • During the first 3 years of operation (2002-5), SAHARA provided temporary shelter to 54 conflict-affected children and other orphans
  • A total of 48 children were reintegrated in their families and communities. The other are under institutional care
